CAVU Capital is a private investment firm founded in 2020 headquartered in Tampa, FL.

CAVU Capital is led by Barry Shevlin, a technology executive with a career long record of success growing emerging and mid-market technology companies. CAVU makes growth equity investments and takes an active role in helping management create and execute a plan to grow.

CAVU is an aviation acronym for Ceiling and Visibility Unlimited, first used by Navy Pilots in WWII when describing the perfect day to fly.

CEO

Barry Shevlin

Barry Shevlin founded CAVU Capital to provide growth capital and operational assistance to emerging and mid-market technology companies. When providing capital, CAVU differentiates itself by providing meaningful hands-on assistance in creating and executing a plan to GROW.

Prior to forming CAVU, Barry was the CEO of Vology, an IT Services company he founded in Palm Harbor, Florida in 2002. There, Shevlin ran an operation supporting more than 5,000 customers worldwide overseeing rapid sales growth and product expansion from a startup with $1 million in revenue in 2002 to annual revenues that ultimately reached $175 million. Barry exited Vology shortly after a sale to a private equity group in November, 2019.

Some additional highlights of Barry’s tenure at Vology included:

  • Voted one of the Best Places to work in Tampa for 6 consecutive years
  • E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist 2014

Over his career, Mr. Shevlin has completed over $500 million in capital market transactions with institutions including private equity firms, family offices, syndicated bank groups, and subordinated debt providers.

Mr. Shevlin has been an active member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) since 2007. Barry also currently holds his Series 63 and 79 licenses from FINRA.

FlyUSA, Inc.- a technology enabled, asset light aviation business.

ImageTech Systems- a leading integrator of business process automation solutions, with a focus on Nintex, Kofax and Microsoft Power Apps.

Senior Managing Director

Michael Johnson

Michael Johnson co-founded CAVU Capital to advise mid-market technology companies and investors through various transactions such as M&A, private placements of debt and equity as well as advisory assignments. Michael is passionate about partnering with existing ownership looking toward a sale, capital raise and/or expansion.

During his career, he has held strategic roles within large multinational companies acquiring businesses and making strategic investments. He has also worked as CFO and owner of a mid-sized company, and as a managing director at two investment banks. The breadth and diversity of these experiences provide his clients with tremendous value, pairing strategy, investment banking, and finance/accounting expertise to his work in M&A. Michael has executed a variety of strategic initiatives and transaction types including M&A, organic growth strategies, internal process improvement, joint ventures and capital raises. As a proven problem solver, Michael has driven value through collaboration, hard work, and finding unique solutions in ambiguous situations.

Analyst

Jake Arnoys

Jake brings mergers and acquisitions experience having previously been on an M&A team at a boutique investment banking firm in the Midwest. Jake was involved in valuation analysis, developing company marketing materials, and communicating with business owners to better understand their company operations, investment highlights and growth opportunities.

At CAVU Capital, Jake is the lead analyst. He is responsible for constructing marketing materials, crafting valuation analyses, developing buyer lists, and maintaining/creating relationships with strategic buyers, investors, and clients.

Criteria

Size: Revenues from $10M to $50M with a minimum of $2M in EBITDA. No minimums for add-on acquisitions.

Geography: US based, with a focus on the Florida and the broader Southeast

Industries: IT Services, Tech Enabled Businesses, Digital Transformation, Software and SaaS

Ownership: We typically work with founder owned businesses where the founders are (1) looking to exit or (2) interested in working with a hands-on capital provider that can really help them take the business to the next level.
